With a fascination for the rhythms and contrasts of the southern Alberta landscape most of Mary Ann Wilson's work is executed on location using oil on masonite panels; finding the challenge of the elements lends a certain edge and vitality to her painting process. Over the past year, Mary Ann has been working on larger paintings in the studio using her smaller plein air paintings as studies.
A graduate from the Alberta College of Art in 1978, Mary Ann Wilson went on to complete four summers of out-door painting workshops at the University of Alberta in between 1982 - 1986. Wilson has participated regularly in the Gushel Studio Residency Program in the Crowsnest Past. With a greater emphasis on her studio practice and honing her craft rather than seeking exhibition opportunities, Mary Ann has become a prolific painter and co-author / art director of the children's book "Make-A-Saurus" by Annick press, and Illustrator of children's book" Bucky, the Adventures of the Dinosaur Cowboy" by Emmis Books. Wilson has exhibited her paintings in Western Canada and the Yukon Territory; she currently resides and maintains her studio practice in Calgary, Alberta.
