KAREN MAIOLO | |
Karen Maiolo’s interests as a painter, lie in the interface of humanity and nature - the emotional moment as we are "kissed" by nature. Maiolo forgoes extraordinary vistas common to Canadian landscape painting, in search of the extraordinary emotional moments experienced when surrounded by nature’s more mundane offerings. Through her sensitivity and compassion as a human, Maiolo draws upon her skill, conviction and dedication as a painter, to both depict and evoke an emotional response. Through paint and her own personal moments of heightened awareness; Maiolo submerses the viewer in an environment which quietly communicates both the fragility and strength of nature’s lifecycle. Although Maiolo’s known for visual accuracy, she is more interested in depicting the emotional accuracy of her experience in nature - using light, negative space, colour and painting style as her tools of communication. Maiolo has a profound connection to nature and is prepared to share it with the viewer, through painting.
Karen Maiolo is a practicing artist for over 20 years. Born in Hamilton, Ontario she attended the Dundas Valley School of Art and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, during the early 1980’2. In 1990 Karen Maiolo relocated to Banff, Ab to where she has developed and continues an active painting practice. With a history in performance, Maiolo had connects with the Precipice Theatre and the Banff Centre for the Arts. Maiolo’s paintings are in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, England and Holland.
